Sabino Basin - 9/16/19 - 13.7 miles

Great to see so many people out today, especially with the morning rain and early start. We had 27 runners in all for this year’s Sabino Basin Out-n-Back. One sprained ankle and a few scraped knees – but all in all, a great day to be out on trail with the break in heat.

Here's the roundup - hope to see y'all soon! – Rick

Florida-Madera-Wrightson Double - 10/20/19 - 26 miles

Apologies for the delayed results to all the awesome folks who showed up this past sunday for the Florida-Madera Canyons adventure (with a little hump in between). For those of you who couldn't make it out, the atmospheric conditions were absolutely ideal, and the trail conditions weren't horrible at least--a bit overgrown in places especially with grasses on the Florida side. Or so I heard. We had but a single runner completing the full ~marathon distance course (9,950 ft of ascent) this year, there were 4 Wrightson out and backs (~15.6 mi), a couple in between options, and 7 more of us who did something a bit shorter, including Sir Clydesdale Huntington McBride, the 13.75 yr old [actual years] bloodhound & fitness freak.

Of some modest amusement: the person who went the furthest also ran at the fastest pace. Nice job, Ben!

I've attached the results as an Excel file in case the formatting is an issue in this email. If there are errors or misspellings please let me know. Clyde's age in the results is calculated using the standard [dog age] * [7 yr] =~ [human age] function. Everyone knows that's not quite correct so no need to call me on it!

Thanks everybody! And especially Joe Dana, our Madera Aid Maestro! It was a blast, as always. Man, I love that parking lot.

Mt. Lemmon Ascent - 11/3/19 - 18.6 miles

It was a another great day on the mountain! Runners came in talking about how brutal the climb was, the achy quads, nerve spasms, stomach pains, running out of water, getting off trail, running in to trees, yes, we heard so many good stories that Jim and I are willing to give up our RD duties next year so we too can experience all that fun! So if you'd like to volunteer please let us or Mike Duer know!

Huge thank you to Steven Terry, Bob Arendt and one of the Harris family boys for shuttling people back down the mountain. Diane and dog Zoey just happened to be on the mountain for a run/hike and kindly offered to take 4 of the early finishers back down which was unexpected and super sweet!

Kent Warlick decided to start his run from the Finger Rock TH and just swing by for cookies before continuing on and finishing somewhere around Upper Green Mt. TH. I'm not sure of the mileage or time but somewhere around 30. Way to go Kent!

Nice job all of you! For those that have never RD'd, I recommend you volunteer for one of the events on next seasons calendar. You get so much more out of it then you put in and there's not a better group of people to spend your time supporting.

Trish and Jim

Keystone Traverse - 3/1/20 - 15 miles

A cloudy, windy, and cool day made for some good running at the Sierrita Mountains. Everyone got back to the finish line with minimal scrapes and bruises. Legends grew larger with great feats of endurance after partaking in the finish line goodies. Freshly Graded “trail” made for some fast times.

Esperero Canyon Loop - 3/15/20 - 21 miles

Sunday was a great day with 27 runners showing up to do the full loop or shorter options. It started out comfortably cool

and warmed up nicely. There was no critter sightings reported or serious injuries although a little blood was donated by some.

While it was a nice morning there was water crossings for all. Pam and I enjoyed being RDs and enjoyed socializing with

everyone.

Wasson Peak Lollipop - 6/14/20 - 12.8 miles

The morning of June 14th started pleasantly enough, just like every morning so far in 2020. The world was being ravaged by a pandemic, the country was experiencing some extreme social and racial unrest, and in Tucson the Catalina Mountains were continuing to be devastated by the Bighorn Wildfire. The wildfire made the originally scheduled Mt. Kimball ascent a risky option. Rather than require each runner to do the Mt Kimball ascent while carrying 100 gallons of fire fighting water and fire-retardant slurry, we changed the run to Wasson Peak in the Tucson Mountains. This was a fine choice and 24 people showed up for the event. The morning started out cool but quickly warmed up into the 90s. Five runners competed the full Wasson Peak Lollipop loop of about 12.8 miles, thirteen runners completed the shorter Wasson Peak Out and Back rout of about 9.3 miles. Five runners did shorter out and back routes on Sweetwater trail. One runner unfortunately took a wrong turn and ended up spending a significant amount of time exploring the Painted Rocks trail system northeast of Wasson Peak. All runners returned. Some blood was spilled to appease the trail gods. Pre-8:00 am “recovery” beers were had. All in all, a good day on the trails, thanks to all who came out and for the small group that stuck around until the end. Results posted below, please let us know if something is wrong.
